تتطلع الصين إلى تعزيز علاقاتها العسكرية مع الولايات المتحدة في عهد الرئيس الجديد باراك أوباما إلا أن مسؤولا صينيا رفيع المستوى أوضح أن بلاده ترغب في أن تتوقف الولايات المتحدة عن تزويد تايوان بالأسلحة.
